Rocky beaches, hiking paths and endless privacy are now trending on the once overlooked Riviera Nayarit, about an hour north of Punta de Mita, known for its Four Seasons. This area is 200 miles of Pacific coastline from the historic port of San Blas to where Rio Ameca meets Banderas Bay at Puerto Vallarta. It’s now booming with interest as the new hot travel spot. It is seeing “luxury hotels of seclusion” trending and now being built one after another. This area is trending for its difference. It is not your typical Mexican travel destination like anything before. Elegance and eco-luxury are the new focus and desire of sao many travellers. One & Only, Four Seasons and Auberge are names you will find along with Mexican towns and fishing villages, the Sierra Madre mountains and lots of jungles to hike. The weather is dry as is the West Coast unlike the weather of Cancun and the water up here is calmer than that below in Cabo San Lucas. This is prime real estate for luxury builders and they are coming. ever since the pandemic, travellers are looking for seclusion and eco trav el is huge. This is the new Riviera where travel is about the new ‘eco-luxury’ travel.
Low Density Tourism
This is not popular destinations or the family and spring break. There is a huge market now wanting this kind of travel. This is sustainable type of living in the wild with underdevelopment and true nature. Hotel prices high. This is not your all-inclusive mass market appeal. This is the higher calbire of traveller who wants to appreciate the space and land they are on. This is individualized travel at a high end luxury level where rooms start over $1,000 dollars. Think sustainability and understated privacy. That’s what this area is building itself into with luxury hotels brands. The biggest names are coming and this will surely be a new Riviera. This less formal but still full luxury for the most discerning of tastes.
Marketing
For those marketing to this traveller – a new Riviera is exactly what needs to be promoted as this is the next hot spot of luxury travel and the new ECO luxury demand of global travellers from around the world.
Eco Luxury is Trending; Some of the choices on the Riviera Nayarit
Naviva is an adult-only hotel of individual tended rooms by the Four Seasons. Not far away is the famed Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita. Naviva is about intimacy, privacy and seclusion. Scaled down amenities that feels eco-tourism-y.
The One & Only Mandarina is about an hour north of Punta de Mita and is surrounded by mountains (One & Only is are one of my my favorite luxury hotels, their place in Cabo San Lucas is one of my favorites) This hotel has 105 free standing treehouses and villas on many acres of gorgeous landscape while preserving the ecosystems. You are surrounded by jungle and feel totally secluded and private.
Susurros del Corazon is owned by Auberge. It’s in the Pinta de Mita area and has only 59 rooms and suites with 30 villas.
The Plan
Coming over the next few years, a Ritz Carlton, Montage, Rosewood and Belmond. This is the new trend of what five-star luxury looks like in Mexico. With lands that resemble Bali and remoteness that feels private – this way of travel definitely will appeal to people who want a new way of travel post-pandemic.
